The Gateway at Willowbrook Wins Pillars & Sage Awards

Withee Malcolm Architects took home top honors in the Best Affordable Apartment Community (over 100 units) for The Gateway at Willowbrook at the 2019 Multifamily Pillars of the Industry Award, which was held during the 2020 International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

NAHB’s Multifamily Pillars of the Industry Award has honored developers, architects, interior designers, builders, marketers and property management firms since 1992. The Pillars awards are held in high esteem by top-level multifamily development companies, management firms and experts in the field. The annual competition is judged by a jury of knowledgeable peers, each having a proven record of success in various facets of the multifamily industry.

In late November 2019 the project was also honored by the 55+ Housing Council of the BIASC  with its 2019 SAGE Award for the Best Affordable Rental Community.  The Council on Shaping Advancements in Generational Environments (SAGE) provides the education and networking tools needed to ensure success in building for and serving the senior market.

The Gateway at Willowbrook, an affordable senior community, is part of a landmark mixed-use project that includes a public library—the first of its kind in Los Angeles County. The ground-breaking, mixed-use projectoptimizes the use of County property to provide over 100 units of affordable senior housing and public library learning together under one roof. Los Angeles County Supervisor, Mark Ridley-Thomas said, “The Gateway at Willowbrook is the epitome of what high-quality and affordable development and services can and should look like.”

Another project, The Place in Costa Mesa, was one of three finalists in the Pillars Best Condominium Community category.
