The Gateway at Willowbrook Featured in Affordable Housing Issue
The article in the October issue of Builder and Developer focuses on the catalytic impact The Gateway at Willowbrook has had on the community. The landmark mixed-use project optimizes the use of County property to provide over 100 units of affordable senior housing and public library learning together under one roof. The author, editor Julia Edinger, puts a special focus on the importance of the new library writing “The building encompasses a representation of the two foundational aspects of socioeconomic growth: housing and literacy.”
The article cites a Pew Research report that found 95 percent of Americans agree the resources public libraries make available to members of a community play a significant role in giving everyone a chance to succeed. Edinger also noted Willowbrook Library offers more than books. Reading areas, a workforce center, family areas and public access computers make the library a true community resource.
Further, the story discusses the other components of the development including 105 affordable senior residences, 22 of which are reserved for the formerly homeless, and a public community room.
