The Ecosystem of Affordable Housing Development

The Ecosystem of Affordable Housing Development

For years, California residents have heard about, and in some cases personally felt, the need for affordable housing. Demand has intensified over the last decade, and in the last few years we have all witnessed the acute effects of its lack in displaced and homeless neighbors.

The team at Withee Malcolm are seeing the political winds significantly change in support of new and alternative affordable and permanent supportive housing developments. We are also seeing the interdependence and collaborative necessities in this specific development ecosystem. Each group, whether architects, developers, municipalities, and even community stakeholders, has a distinct and important part to play in this effort. WM’s Director of Architecture Dirk Thelen, AIA, will be expanding on those roles and the trends within this recent and powerful shift, in the forthcoming June issue of Builder and Developer Magazine. We also are excited by some of the innovative projects setting the standard for an evolving model such as Rose Hills Court, Veteran’s Village of Carson, and Hollywood Arts Collective, so stay tuned for the article and more information.
