Founded in Chicago, Aloha Poke has been expanding to the West Coast recently opening a shop in Westfield Century City. Withee Malcolm joined the design team to wrangle a complex set of requirements into a constrained site. The challenges included an oddly configured, 487-square-foot space, Westfield’s strict design guidelines, local code requirements and rigorous reviews at every stage of the project. 

Undaunted, the architects collaborated closely with the interior designer, Judy Van Wyk of The Design Studio, to create a fun and functional space with a clear brand identity. The goal was constructability that did not compromise the design—Withee Malcolm successfully oversaw the entire process from approvals to team management to poke bowl readiness.
