Construction Listed as an Essential Need
During Coronavirus Crisis
Late last week California Governor Newsom’s Administration updated their executive order on essential businesses to include construction. That decision allows the construction industry to continue working on a range of critical structures including medical facilities, schools and housing.
As a recent article in the Los Angeles Times pointed out before the coronavirus erupted, “California’s most pressing issue arguably was its well-documented housing shortage.” And it remains so. Withee Malcolm Architects is currently working on a number of multifamily residential projects, both affordable and market rate, in various phases of design and construction. While our team is working remotely, we remain in close collaboration with our clients and colleagues to assure that progress on these much-needed homes continues apace.
Other building types, including offices and retail facilities, will also be critical to the state’s economic recovery when the crisis is over. Our commercial/industrial team is also working closely with their partners in design and construction to keep their projects moving forward on schedule.
